How far back do background checks search?

In compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), we follow a guideline for how far back a record can be reported.

Generally, all felony convictions are reportable for an indefinite amount of time, misdemeanor convictions are reportable for up to 10 years, felony and misdemeanor non-convictions are reportable for up to 7 years, and any other type of arrests are reportable for up to 7 years.

However, certain states have their own state laws that override these rules. Please see our Scope of Reportable Records to see the states' guidelines. If your state is not listed, then the general guidelines listed above are used.

If you have questions about a specific report, please feel free to contact Client Support at 800-319-5581, or email them at support@protectmyministry.com
